Can I Connect A Solar Panel Charger To My Car Battery Without Interfering With The Alternator?

Would like to add a solar panel to help charge my car battery. Will this affect/hurt my alternator? Do I need to switch from alternator to solar.
I was hoping to leave the panel attached to the car during operation.
I’d like it as easy as possible.

Does/can A Solar Cell Battery Charger Extend The Life Of A Car Battery?

or does it shorten the life by constantly topping it off?
I understand that if you always charge the phone battery to full without draining completely, it sort of gains a memory if you will. now, will installing one of these help a newer battery or hinder, and will it help to extend the life of a failing (older) battery or cause an earlier demise?

How To Test A 12v Solar Battery Charger?

I have got a solar power trickle charger for car battery but the thing is, there are no indications to prove that it is working and the battery is charging. The shop says they haven’t got any electrcian to test the darn thing.
I would appreciate any clever person who can give suggestions of how I could carry out my own test at home.
